Having been pipped to the Serie A title by Inter, Roma were clearly intent on keeping hold of the knock-out trophy they won last season.

After the interval Roma doubled their advantage as Italy midfielder Perrotta poked in after a one-two with Montenegro forward Mirko Vucinic on 53 minutes.
Inter's Portuguese midfielder Pele, on as a substitute, pulled a goal back just before the hour with a remarkable long-range shot.
