Former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has emerged as a shock candidate for the vacant South Korea post.
According to unconfirmed reports, the Korea Football Association (KFA) is believed to be eyeing Bruce along with other high-profile candidates including Sven-Goran Eriksson, Guus Hiddink, Senol Gunes, Marco van Basten and former Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.
The 50 year-old, who was sacked by Sunderland last month after a poor start to the Premier League campaign, is facing long odds to land South Korea's top job due to his lack of experience on the international stage.
However, the KFA may have to reconsider their options after setting a yearly salary of $1million for the new manager, which is considerably lower than what the likes of Eriksson and Scolari would demand.
"Once we know who the ideal candidate is, we'll begin talks with that person," a KFA representative was quoted as saying in the local media.
A foreign manager is now a strong possibility for the KFA after local candidates Choi Kang-hee of Jeonbuk Motors, Ulsan Tigers's Kim Ho-kon and Olympic team manager Hong Myung-bo ruled themselves out of contention.
