Title race goes to wire; Livorno are relegated

The Serie A title race will go all the way to the final day of the season after Roma cut Inter's lead at the top to just one point. Roberto Mancini's side, runaway leaders at one stage on odds-on to retain their title, dropped yet more points as they were held 2-2 at home by Siena, despite twice taking the lead Roma moved onto the shoulders of their rivals going into the last round of matches thanks to a 2-1 victory over Atalanta. Livorno were relegated to Serie B as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Torino. Inter took the lead through Patrick Vieira after just 11 minutes, but Siena hit back 20 minutes later through former Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone. Mario Balotelli then put Inter 2-1 up on the stroke of half-time, but a 69th-minute equaliser from Houssine Kharja cost the league leaders two points. Roma, meanwhile, went 2-0 up thanks to a first-half goal from defender Christian Panucci and a 67th-minute strike from Daniele De Rossi and, while Atalanta grabbed a late consolation through Gianpaolo Bellini, Luciano Spalletti's men held on for the win to keep the pressure on Inter. At the bottom, Alessandro Rossina's goal four minutes before half-time ensured Torino were safe, but it condemned Livorno to Serie B. Empoli are in deep trouble too, after second-half goals from Edgar Barreto and Nicola Amoruso gave Reggina a home win. Catania were unfortunate not to claim three points in their game away at Juventus. Jorge Martinez had given them a shock lead just after half-time, but Alessandro Del Piero gave the Old Lady a point with just one minute of normal time to spare. Catania will now need a point in their final game to make sure they survive. Milan's hope of making the UEFA Champions League look very slim as they go into the last game needing to make up a two-point deficit on Fiorentina after a 3-1 defeat away at eight-placed Napoli. Marek Hamsik gave the hosts the lead in the first half before a Maurizio Domizzi penalty in the 68th minute made it two. Gyorgy Garics made it embarrassing for Carlo Ancelotti's men in the 92nd minute, but veteran Clarence Seedorf managed to restore a little pride with a 94th minute consolation. Lazio moved up to 12th after a 2-0 away win at Genoa. The visitors had the game wrapped up in the first half as a Goran Pandev goal after 32 minutes gave them the lead before Tomasso Rocchi rounded things off 13 minutes later. Sampdoria remain in contention for a Uefa Cup place after their 2-0 win over Palermo. On-loan Antonio Cassano gave them the lead on the hour before Cristian Maggio wrapped things up in the 76th minute. And in the final game, Cagliari ended any fears of being relegated on the final day with a surprise 2-0 win at Udinese. Robert Acquafresca put them in front on 48 minutes and Andrea Cossu got the second seven minutes later.
