Canaries midfielder refusing to rule out international involvement

Norwich midfielder Andrew Surman is refusing to give up on his international ambitions, with turning out for South Africa still an option open to him. The 26-year-old was born in Johannesburg, but represented England at Under 21 level and figured for the Young Lions in their 2009 European Championship campaign. Surman has, however, failed to force his way into the senior set-up, allowing the land of his birth to make their move. South Africa were keen for him to be involved in their squad earlier this year, as they begin to turn their attention towards the 2014 World Cup. Surman, though, is looking to focus his full attention on his club career for now, with international recognition an issue he plans to explore at a later date. "I haven't ruled it out, but it is just at this moment in time I don't think it's something I need in my life, though it was a great honour to be approached," he said in the Eastern Daily Press.

"I think it would be a lot, especially with the African Nations Cup, to be travelling around the world. "The club is my focus and I have got a young family, a three-year-old and a one-year-old. "It's something that needs to be put on the back burner a little bit. "We (Norwich) have had a new manager coming in as well and I need to concentrate on my club football." Surman penned a contract extension at Carrow Road shortly after Chris Hughton's appointment as successor to Paul Lambert and has been impressed by the new man at the helm. "He has come in and put his mark on things and stamped his authority and he's got the full respect of the players," Surman added.
