Sky Blues nominated for gongs

Coventry City's Steven Pressley and Callum Wilson have been nominated for August's manager and player of the month awards respectively.

The Sky Blues - who were hit with a 10-point deduction a day before the start of the new campaign - won two, drew two and lost just one of their opening five matches, scoring 16 goals in the process. Manager Pressley will fight it out with Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett, Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson and Leyton Orient's Russell Slade for the accolade. Highly-rated 21-year-old striker Wilson, an Academy graduate, scored six of City's goals last month in the first five games of what is his breakthrough season for the midlands club. He has been shortlisted alongside Colchester centre-back Magnus Okuonghae, Orient midfielder Romain Vincelot and Bradford striker Nahki Wells. The winners will be announced on Friday. Meanwhile, Pressley ran his eye over two unnamed trialists on Tuesday afternoon as Coventry's Under-21s clinched a late 2-2 draw against Barnsley. The pair are believed to be a Brazilian striker and a Scottish centre-half and both started as Billy Daniels and Mathieu Manset, from the penalty spot, bagged late on.
