Gold Coast close on Culina

Gold Coast United claim to be on the verge of agreeing a deal with PSV Eindhoven for Jason Culina.

Midfielder may be set for Australian return

Gold Coast United claim to be on the verge of agreeing a deal with PSV Eindhoven for Jason Culina. The Australian outfit are keen to bring the midfielder back to his homeland for the next A-League season. The 28-year-old will be out of contract in Holland next summer and Gold Coast coach Miron Bleiberg believes his side lead the hunt for Culina's signature.

Approach

"Obviously both sides are interested but it's still far away," Bleiberg told AAP. "We have to approach his club, we have to finalise a deal with him. But it's good, any deal where both sides want to enter a venture means it's more likely to happen. "But it's still far from completion as there's a lot of processes that have to be done before it is completed."
Impact
Culina left Australia for Ajax in 2000 and has taken in spells at Germinal Beerschot, De Graafschap and FC Twente prior to his arrival at PSV in 2005. Now, his father believes the time is right for a homecoming. "It's important that if he comes back he's young enough to make an impact, rather than coming back like John Aloisi, Paul Okon and Tony Vidmar who were too old to produce their best," said Branko Culina. "For Jason, it would be about the Australian public seeing what a good player he is."
