Stuttering Spireites slump to home defeat

Lowly Hereford grabbed a rare away win to pile the misery on out-of-form Chesterfield with a 2-1 victory at Saltergate. Goals from Jake Jervis and Marc Pugh proved enough for the visitors, with Barry Conlon grabbing a consolation for the Spireites late on. Hereford had enough chances to have been well in front by half-time but failed to take them. Luke Young was inches wide with a lobbed effort from 35 yards and Mathieu Manset was given a sight of goal following a mistake by Chesterfield's Robert Page but fired his effort against the crossbar. Manset and Jervis wasted further chances before Hereford finally edged in front in the 48th minute. Pugh burst into the box only to be fouled by Phil Picken and Jervis made no mistake with the resulting spot-kick. Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee prevented Jervis adding a second but was left helpless in the 63rd minute when Hereford cut straight through the middle. Kenny Lunt set up Pugh who strolled through unchallenged to score. Chesterfield staged a late comeback with Conlon scoring with a penalty nine minutes from time. Conlon was then denied an equaliser by a reaction save from Hereford keeper Adam Bartlett.
